Joseph Kavuli is the Regional Director for East and Central Africa for Child Evangelism Fellowship. He will be here Sunday, June 1, to preach and share his heart about reaching the children in Africa with the gospel. He attended the CEF training school with the Hallstead’s. He is traveling around the United States to let others know of the work and to raise funds for his traveling needs. He is in charge of 13 countries in Africa and it has become very expensive to travel. He is also looking to buy a new used car to travel in. He has been challenged by CEF headquarters to raise $5,000 towards this purchase and then they will match that amount raised. Please pray for Joseph and the important work in Africa of reaching many children for Christ.
CEF Regional Director of East and Central Africa Here in Vancouver!!
Joseph Kavuli is the CEF Regional Director for East and Central Africa. He oversees 11 countries with a population of 118 million children under the age of 15. Joseph was raised in a family that did not believe in the one true God. His parents didn’t want him to be associated with any group that talked about God for fear that he would be converted. When he was 8 years old his father was ordered by the government to send him to school. While in second grade, Joseph attended a devotional class conducted by a missionary pastor. The invitation verse which the pastor used was John 3:16. The Holy Spirit was working on his heart and he responded by receiving Christ as his Savior. After Joseph prayed to receive Christ, he began to pray for his family members. He would walk ten miles to school and back and would pray for each family member by name. The first member of his family to receive Christ would be his mom. His father died before receiving Christ, but every other member of his family has believed.
Joseph got involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship as a member of the board in Kenya . After a while he was made the board chairman. In 1993 he resigned from his job and joined CEF of Kenya as a full-time worker. In 1994 Joseph attended the CEF training school where he was in a class with Tracy and Leng Halstead. Joseph and the Hallstead’s became friends and have kept in contact with each other. In 1997, Joseph was asked to accept more responsibility and become the regional director, the position he holds today. Joseph has a heart to reach children and wants to help others know the joy of leading children to Christ. He is traveling around Washington and Oregon to share his passion and let others know the needs they have in his region.
Pray for the work Joseph is doing in Africa and specifically for his home country of Kenya. During recent violence in Kenya, over 1,000 people were killed and 350,000 displaced—mostly children. We also want to ask God to provide for his travel as he covers 10 countries, for new ministry begun in Djibouti and for God to open doors for the gospel in Somalia and Eritrea.
If you’d like to hear more about what is happening in East and Central Africa, you’re in luck, because Joseph is our guest speaker this Sunday and will be available to talk after service. If you can’t wait until then, you can call the Halstead’s about the open house they are hosting for him from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Saturday the 31st.
